THE ITALIAN GAZE ( Lo Sguardo Italiano) is a unique, independently produced art and film project, created with thousands hand colored oil pastels images through frame by frame animation.
Through the eyes of an Italian artist who emigrated in the United States THE ITALIAN GAZE portrays the "intoxicating" beauty of Italy, what many visitors still get looking at its landscapes and at thousands years of history, Art and Architecture, as well as denounces the profound moral and cultural decay in contemporary Italian life. Both extremes breathe in this authentic, original and challenging time based art work.
THE ITALIAN GAZE has been supported through fellowships and residency programs since its first conception, in 2005, and its beginning marked my journey as an Italian immigrant in the United States. In this website you can find highlighted the milestones of this unique adventure. There are more than 5,000 images to be completed for this project, and we wish the project could see the light before the end of the 2016!

LO SGUARDO ITALIANO è un'opera d'arte e un film indipendentemente prodotto, unico nel suo genere, creato con centinaia di immagini colorate con i pastelli ad olio, poi riprese con il cinema d'animazione a passo uno.
Attraverso gli occhi di un artista italiano emigrato negli Stati Uniti, LO SGUARDO ITALIANO vuole rappresentare la bellezza contagiosa dell'Italia, un'esperienza comune ai molti visitatori quando ammirano il paesaggio e migliaia di anni di storia, arte e architettura, e allo stesso tempo denunciare la profonda decadenza morale e culturale dell'Italia contemporanea. Questi due estremi convivono in maniera autentica in questo lavoro di video d'arte complesso e originale.
LO SGUARDO ITALIANO ha ricevuto il supporto di borse e residenze per artisti fin dalla sua concezione, nel 2005, e il suo inizio è coinciso con il mio secondo viaggio da emigrante italiano negli Stati Uniti. In questo sito potete trovare il resoconto di questo viaggio affascinante. Servono più di 5,000 immagini per completare questo progetto, e ci auguriamo che veda la luce prima della fine del 2016!
